Through social and transformative movements such as Idle No More and Black Lives Matter, along with the rise of neo-fascism and xenophobia, the visibility of racial discord feels unrelenting as we scroll through news and social media feeds. The deepening divide has centred on the dominance of whiteness and white supremacy. In response to the continued expectation for non-white individuals to elucidate oppression and trauma for the benefit of whiteness, MIXED COMPANY is a proposal to decentre whiteness by focusing on the nuances of racial dynamics within the “visible minority.”
